EA Vs Activision, the duel goes to court

As in any industry in which large numbers and interests play central roles in video games are serious conflicts arise around it. In fact, there are some issues that are difficult to settle independently and it is essential and necessary to resort to the courts. The latter is exactly what happened to two of the most recognized and successful companies in the scene. We refer to Activision and Electronic Arts, which will go to trial for the controversial case remembered and Infinity Ward.

Of course, remember that both Jason West and Vince Zampella (the heads of the popular Call of Duty series) last year decided to leave Infinity Ward. At the time of giving explanations, both agreed that creative came to make that determination because of the differences they have with Activision. In very little time left to officially announce that closet a brand new team. It was the study called Respawn Entertainment, which would have the financial support of the people at Electronic Arts.

Well, just this last statement was what motivated the directors of Activision to sue EA peers. Such demand reached 400 million dollars, since the plaintiffs’ lawyers from EA felt that negotiations had been kept secret character Zampella and West at the time both were still under orders from Activision.

Of course the first thing made from Electronic Arts was to request the cancellation of such claim. But despite this formal presentation, the California Supreme Court Judge said that since Activision presented sufficient evidence to support the claim. Thus then, the novel between the two companies will continue next year. More precisely the May 7, due date for both firms limen see the faces and their differences in court. In turn, it should be noted that both Zampella and West also should go to such a trial, since they were sued for improper conduct. Earlier, both had sued his former employer for 36 million as a result of uncollected benefits about Modern Warfare 2.

Battlefield 3, the best selling game in October

Battlefield 3, the best selling game in OctoberJust a few days ago, we met the sales results of the last chapter of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare 3. In just 24 hours, sold 6.5 million copies of this game, which means an income of $ 400 million, improving the record set by last year’s Black Ops 360 million. This makes Call of Duty to the greatest franchise in the gaming industry, and therefore, in any industry related to entertainment, including movies.

The game that would rival MW3 , Battlefield 3, is also getting large numbers, although there has been a bit far from the results of the next installment in the saga of Activision. It went on sale near the end of October, but still became the best selling game of the month in the U.S., with two million copies distributed throughout the country. Battlefield 3 beat Batman: Arkham City (1.5 million), NBA 2K12, Rage and Just Dance 3.

After a week in stores, Battlefield 3 had exceeded 5 million sold, as announced by Electronic Arts. This makes the third of Battlefield on EA game that has sold more quickly in the history of the company.

While Modern Warfare 3 will clearly exceed Battlefield 3 , and is more than likely that within weeks will be over 20 million units sold, the percentage improvement in sales of the latter is greater. It is possible that within a few years, the saga of war EA can compete with Call of Duty, or at least that is the intention of the company in the medium term.
